What grants help pay for therapy or adaptive equipment?

We need help paying for an AAC device and possibly a safety bed. Insurance is slow and may deny both. Are there grants that are actually worth applying for?

Yes, but grants are usually piecemeal and paperwork-heavy. Start with the device manufacturer's funding list, local disability nonprofits, diagnosis-specific foundations, UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation if eligible, civic groups, and your state assistive technology program. Also ask the school whether the AAC device is needed for access to education, because school responsibility is separate from insurance. Keep one folder with the evaluation, denial letter, quote, prescription, and a short family statement.
