What should happen at the first ABA therapy session?

Our 4-year-old starts ABA next week. The clinic says the first session is mostly assessment, but I have no idea what that means. Should I expect table work, play, parent questions, or something else?

A good first ABA session should feel more like learning your child than testing your child. Expect parent interview questions, play, observation, simple preference checks, and maybe a few easy instructions to see how your child communicates and learns. I would not expect heavy demands on day one. Ask how they handle refusal, how they include parent goals, and when you will see a written treatment plan. Your child should be safe, respected, and given time to warm up.
